What is Unicode cursive text?

Unicode cursive text uses the Mathematical Script block — a set of code points in the Unicode standard that look like cursive (handwriting-style) versions of regular letters. These characters are part of the Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols range and are rendered in a flowing, connected style by every modern font, browser, and operating system. Because they are real Unicode code points (not a font effect), they can be pasted into any text field, including social media bios, post captions, usernames, and chat messages.

The mathematical script alphabet covers A–Z and a–z. A few letters (uppercase B, E, F, H, I, L, M, R and lowercase e, g, o) are encoded as separate precomposed characters in the Letterlike Symbols block for historical reasons, but they render identically and this tool handles the mapping automatically.

Cursive text variants in Unicode

Unicode contains several script-like variants. The most commonly used is Mathematical Script (U+1D49C–U+1D4CF), which this tool produces. Other related variants include Mathematical Bold Script (U+1D4D0–U+1D503), which renders the same cursive shapes in a heavier weight. There are also various calligraphic and handwriting fonts, but those are font-level effects, not Unicode code points — they only work where the specific font is installed.

The Unicode script approach is preferred for social media because it works everywhere: the styling is baked into the character itself, so no font installation or platform support is needed beyond standard Unicode coverage.

When to use cursive text

Unicode cursive text is useful whenever you need a handwriting or elegant style in a plain-text environment:
